New Squash Board Inaugurated In Lagos

A new Squash board has been inaugurated yesterday by the Lagos State Sports Commission. The inauguration which was held at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sport Hall at Teslim Balogun Stadium Lagos.

The New Board consist of Olatomi Falase as its Chariman, Capt. Dayo Awobokun as Vice Chairman, Chamberlain Usoh, Mobolaji Olumide Sojinrin, Adedayo Adesonoye and Yemisi Braithwaite as members.

The board is expected to heat the ground running as the squash game and the Nigeria players are in dare need of a revamp, especially in the area of their visibility in the on the PSA Ranking ladder.

Speaking with the Vice Chairman, CAPT. Dayo Awobokun during the inauguration about their plans of putting Nigeria Players among the first two hundred on the PSA Ranking, he has these to say:

‘’We have agreed in principle, we need to raise the ranking of the Nigerian Squash players

‘’With the new rules is to have more PSA tournament in Nigeria within the challenger’s series

‘’which means if you do well, your points come up, we have spoken with Ikoyi Club

‘’we have gotten a commission of about four -eight PSA tournaments next year which our players will take part in, thereby raise their ranking

‘’there two tournament this month (December), hopefully by the end of the year, someone like Wale Amao will be part of the first two hundred ranked players.

On the issue of funding and sponsorship of squash players, Captain Awobokun has this to say:

‘’one of the issues we are going to tackle is the sports funds, we are going to hopefully try and access money from the sport funds for sponsorship of training not just for the athletes but also for and coaches like a tour to Egypt.”
