Following the grand success recorded in the premiere edition in 2017, the Promoters of the annual Chamberlain Squash Open (CSO) have announced that the 2018 edition of the International Tournament would take place from May 7th -12th , 2018 at the Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
CSO’s promoter, Chamberlain Usoh, in a statement said this year’s edition will definitely be bigger than last year’s, as it has the full endorsement and support of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) and the World Squash Federation (WSF).
He added that the PSA has already unveiled the draws for scores of foreign and local players (male and female).
“We are ready to roll. The countdown has begun. Players are in very high spirits and just waiting for the event to kick off. We have 32 players (16 females and 16 males) for the main draws of the tournament. There will be qualifying matches and the players to play those matches have started arriving.
“We have players coming from Egypt, South Africa, Zimbabwe, USA, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, France, Scotland, Iran, Pakistan, India and many others. They will be slugging it out in a six-day tournament. Winners will smile home with various prizes far better than what was given last year.
Usoh further revealed that a lead referee from the World Squash Federation (WSF) has already been assigned as the lead official for the tournament.
“We are happy with the level of support from WSF and PSA. We are also enjoying tremendous support from local stakeholders like Federal Ministry of Sports, Lagos State Government, Nigeria Squash Federation and a host of private sector companies. We are optimistic that we will have a grand event.
“CSO is committed to developing squash and sports generally in Nigeria and Africa. We also hunt for young talents and channel their youthful energies into squash and sports in general thereby taking them off the streets and giving them a new lease of life. We are committed to using squash and sports to tackling societal ills and deepening social development. This is our humble contribution to that project”, Usoh stated.
The CSO Promoter also said there will be lots of side attractions, even as urged amateur players and spectators to register online at chamberlainsquash.com to gain access into the venue of the tournament.
The maiden edition of Chamberlain Squash Open was won by a Briton Tom Ford, while the women category was won by Yemisi Olatunji.
